CURIOSITA’ E STRANEZZE NEL MONDO ANIMALE
L’AMORE STRAORDINARIO TRA UNA TESTUGGINE E UN CUCCIOLO DI IPPOPOTAMO

Un cucciolo di ippopotamo è stato trascinato, in seguito ad un’esondazione del fiume Sarbaki, dalla sua zona d’origine nei pressi di Malindi. Il cucciolo Owen fu salvato, dopo la tragedia dello tsunami che aveva colpito duramente quelle località nel 2004 e, rimasto orfano e unico superstite del branco, fu trasferito nel parco di Haller.
Owe, maschio, del peso di circa 300 Kg., strinse subito amicizia con Mzee, una Testuggine Aldabra, di oltre 130 anni, il cui nome (Mzee) nella lingua “swihli” significa “anziano signore saggio”. Mzee, in un primo momento, non si mostrò entusiasta delle attenzioni che gli 
rivolgeva il suo nuovo amico. In seguito, però, la Testuggine accettò le richieste d’affetto del cucciolo di ippopotamo, solo e abbandonato a se stesso.
Un’amicizia tra un ippopotamo (mammifero) e una Testuggine (rettile) dello stesso sesso è rara, ma molto bella: i due animali si muovono insieme, mangiano insieme e dormono uno appoggiato all’altro, si scambiano effusioni, si mordicchiano a vicenda, insomma si amano.
Inizialmente se Mzee non mangiava nemmeno Owen toccava cibo, obbligando i gestori della riserva a lasciare i due animali sempre insieme, come lo sono tuttora.
Questo esempio di perfetta intesa tra due animali così dissimili, è una vera lezione
per noi umani, che continuiamo imperterriti a discriminare le persone, in ragione della loro razza, colore o anche, solamente, di un altro paese, rispetto al nostro!
